Nutrition Company Herbalife Planing Hundreds Of New Jobs
Herbalife Ltd., the nutritional products company that operates an 800,000-square-foot manufacturing and distribution facility in Winston-Salem, is considering an expansion that would add 300 jobs.
Winston-Salem Mayor Allen Joines confirmed Tuesday to the Triad Business Journal that the potential new jobs would come on top of 500 positions that Herbalife (NYSE: HLF) expects to have in place at the $100 million plant by the end of this year.
Herbalife currently has a work force of about 350 at the 3200 Temple School Road facility.
“It’s a significant number of jobs for our community,” Joines said. “They are well-paying jobs, and it just further solidifies Herbalife’s presence and commitment to Winston-Salem and Forsyth County.”
The city of Winston-Salem and Forsyth County are considering a total of $300,000 worth of incentives for the expansion. The Winston-Salem City Council will consider $150,000 worth of incentives, and Forsyth County also will consider $150,000 for the additional jobs.
Winston-Salem Assistant City Manager Derwick Paige said Tuesday that the City Council will consider the incentives on May 4. County officials could not immediately be reached for comment.
As part of the expansion, Herbalife would also invest over two years $2.34 million in building improvements and $1.17 million in machinery and equipment, Joines said.
Herbalife spokesman Julian Cacchioli did not disclose any other potential location options that Herbalife is considering but said the company is “looking at several other U.S sites and a few cities outside of the U.S.”
The facility makes a variety of nutritional products, including its flagship Formula 1 nutritional shake mix, herbal aloe concentrate and an herbal tea concentrate.
